T-1....and Counting

In less than 24 hours, I will be on my way over the Atlantic Ocean. I'm pretty excited, and at this point, I think I'm in pretty good shape: my suitcase is packed, my boarding passes are printed, and my talks are all set. I've been in email contact with RT, the British fellow, and a couple of my hosts, and I've figured out how I need to proceed after arrival in Frankfurt by train to Munich, and on to the hotel. I've got all my reading material ready, and have gathered supplies for every travel emergency I could think of. So, tonight, I'm just going to have a nice dinner, and relax on the couch with Elvira curled up next to me, watching "The Amazing Race". The fact that I feel so calm and prepared right now probably means that I am going bolt awake at 3 AM, remembering that one last critical thing that I don't have.

  1. Do you get an email when a comment is posted? Pray tell what is on your reading list. I'll give you two suggestions: Have you read "Foreskin's Lament"? Very funny autobiography of an orthodox jew struggling with his faith and family. Or how about "Beat the Reaper"? Medically tinged, clever action. Will make a good film.

  2. Hi Jon! I don't get an email, but I have been checking for comments. I'll check out the books you suggested. I've loaded a ton of stuff on my Kindle, and I think I'll actually post about it at some point, but 2 things that are high on my list to read right away are "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson (1000 pages of science fiction) and "Strength in What remains" by Tracy Kidder, about a refugee form Darfur who became a physician.

  3. Can't you reach Amazon, to download books, in Europe?
