And it’s been an incredibly long day. At this point, I’ve been up and traveling for about 36 hours now. I started out in Omaha, followed by a quick uneventful flight to Chicago. Then, the 8 hr. trip to Frankfurt, which landed at 9 AM Germany time, which translated to about 2 AM Omaha time. After passport control, baggage claim, and customs, my next stop was a 3 hr. train ride to Munich. When Dr. K, the host, picked me up, he informed me that:
1. They had the flight dates wrong and thought I was arriving the previous day, so that:
a. He had waited for me at the train station for 2 hrs. the day before, and
b. I had missed a full day of activities they had planned for me, and
2. I was scheduled to give a talk in 40 minutes, so:
a. No time to stop at the hotel or
b. Freshen up.

So, I proceeded to give my first talk, on orthopaedic problems related to childhood obesity (as well as my little talk on Omaha, delivered auf Deutsch), thoroughly jet-lagged, and in my traveling clothes. We were then whisked directly off for a quick sightseeing tour of the city (thanks, Dr. L!). Here I am, with my co-fellow, RT, sightseeing, while having been up for 24 hours.
Then it was on to dinner…the first of what I’m sure will be many German meals. And now, I’m exhausted and need to crash. But first:
Lol! Like something out of a silly movie.
ReplyDeleteOh no! What a way to start your trip. Good thing you are a go-with-the-flow kinda girl. :)
