Koeln (Cologne) is going to be our home base for the next several days, and from here we’ll visit Bonn and Duesseldorf. Neuss was also to be included, but our host’s schedule has gotten very tight, so instead, we’ll get a free day to sightsee! We arrived here last evening after a 4 hour train ride, and were met by our host, Hans, at the station. He brought us to our hotel, the Hotel Haus Schwan (swan), which is very quaint and really more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. It has a restaurant attached where we ate dinner. I had delicious potato pancakes and smoked salmon (“lachs”, pronounced “lox"), and two (small) glasses of the local beer, Koelsch, which is like a pilsner, but slightly sweeter. My room is very comfortable, but tiny…I can actually touch the bed from the bathroom. In fact, the Fisher-Price House may have more square footage. And, not too surprisingly, it doesn't have internet, so blog updates may be a little intermittent in the near future.

Thats funny, Last time I was in Dublin I stayed at a cheap hotel and if I dropped something in the shower I had to actually step out of the shower and bathroom in order to pick it up. I think the room was about as big as your cedar closet. I spent two nights there before spending some extra cash for a real room.
ReplyDeleteI am getting very tired for you -- with all the long travel days and different hotels. But it also sounds really fun to be exploring so many new places!
ReplyDeleteIt has been tiring, but it's been just so much fun...definitely a once in a lifetime experience!
