When I was a general surgery resident, I spent several months on an exchange program at a hospital in Salzburg, Austria. It was an absolutely wonderful experience, and I have very fond memories of it. Today, after an uneventful train ride from Wuerzburg through Munich, I arrived back here for the first time in (gulp!) 20 years. (Ironically, my Salzburger friend Udo is in NY this month). The city is as beautiful as I remember, and RT and I didn't waste any time, we got right to sightseeing. First, we took a brief stroll through the old town, then crossed a pedestrian bridge over the Salzach river for a visit to the Mirabell Gardens (where the "Do Re Mi" scene of "The Sound of Music" was filmed...do you recognize the fountain?). We also took in a chamber music concert at the Baroque Museum. Tomorrow we plan to visit Mozart's birthplace and the fortress overlooking the town (you can see it at the top of the top photo above). And I am looking forward to having a bosna for lunch...I wonder if it will be as good as I remember.

Hi Lauri! I miss you guys too! The weather here has been pretty cold (in the 40s). That's why I'm wearing that silly red raincoat in every picture :)
