A Meter of Food and Drink

Last night we went to a typical Brauhaus for dinner. There’s a tradition here of ordering the local beer, Koelsch, which comes in small glasses, by the meter (especially if you’re in a group). They also offer various kinds of sausage by the meter. We were in a big group, and everyone drank at least a half a meter of Koelsch, so things got pretty silly. Take a look at the picture: that’s my dinner…it’s not a meter of bratwurst, but it’s pretty close (the fork is there for scale). Everyone was making fun of me, but I didn’t take them too seriously…after all, they were eating Haxe (pig’s knuckles…also known as “German chicken wings”). Towards the end of dinner, we were presented with gifts, and took a group photo. I am wearing my new Koeln hat.
